With more and more people opting to spend their holidays in locations abroad, holiday accidents have inevitably been on a rise in recent years. How much ever a person plans to make their trip a peaceful and enjoyable experience, there is always the chance that an accident or an injury can happen while you are on vacation.
One common cause of holiday accidents is the car accident. Those who make long distance drives to their holiday destination are often met with accidents, or perhaps a breakdown, which is usually because the area in which they are driving is unfamiliar to them. Also, because the traffic rules and conditions at the holiday destination differ from what they are used to in their home country, accidents are likely to frequent more often. To prevent such kind of accidents it is a good idea to rent a car with a driver (who resides in your holiday destination) than to attempt to drive in an unfamiliar location.
Another major reason for holiday accidents increasing is the growing popularity of extreme sports like bungee jumping, para gliding and while water rafting. These kind of high adrenaline sports have claimed the lives of many holidaymakers, due to either inadequate safety measures being in place, or the person not following the instructions correctly. Sometimes an accident can occur because of the health conditions of the person who is participating in the extreme sports. These type of accidents are much more serious than minor accidents happening while doing mountaineering or playing golf. A lot of holiday accidents have been related to water sports like jet skiing and cave diving.
In 2007 a young girl in America, who was riding a jet ski unsupervised, collided with another water craft. The girl suffered very serious head injuries which required her to have a surgery. Following this she then had to stay in a breathing apparatus for some time. This goes to show that participating in water sports should be treated with all seriousness, and not just as a fun activity you do when on holiday. Though many are cautious, some travellers indulge in unsafe practices when participating in water sports on holiday. Things like coming too close to swimmers, chasing each other at high speeds or performing manoeuvres they simply cannot control.
