Most diet plans listed today use a terminology called "free foods" , which by most peoples interpretation is foods/drinks that can be consumed in moderate abundance without affecting the basic diet plan/guidelines. Most have heard the term "drink more water" and since many either resist or just need more beverage variety, often diet plans nclude diet soda/unsweetened coffee/teas/beverage as "free beverages". However, the truth may be startling when measuring how much when measuring actual water consumption, when using water substitutes. Actual water consumption can be affected by factors such as metabolism, daily activities, medications/supplement/foods consumed and more. A small excerpt from a study a www.drweil.com states: "To get two cups of water from coffee or tea, you would have to drink three cups. Considering that you should be getting eight cups of water per day, you would have to drink 12 cups of coffee or tea to get that much." The study goes on to say "depending upon brewing methods that caffeine amounts may vary and to strive to keep the amount of caffeine to under 300 mg". Negativity of too much caffeine is another topic altogether, so lets stay focused on water consumption/content/substitutes. I believe it would be a safe bet to say, you need to drink more than coffee to achieve getting an appropriate amount of water consumption. Although many diet plans include diet sodas as a beverage that can be consumed in abundance, the fact is that many sodas (diet or not ), include caffeine. Given that sodas may contain caffeine and caffeine flushes water out of the body, diet sodas are not necessarily the best substitute for actual water A glance at www.nutritiondata.com "foods highest in water" shows, water as a water content beverage is hard to beat. The list shows that water bottled/tap/well ranked levels above beverages such as carbonated soda/teas/lemonade ..etc and alcohol is ranked ..waaaaaay at the bottom. See a small amount of data from the list [======= Rank Beverages For Water Content =============] Source(nutritiondata.com): http://tinyurl.com/5evvdx Top ranking beverages for FOODS HIGHEST IN WATER 1.
