Many women who used Nuvaring were ignorant about the fact that the use of Nuvaring could double the risk of being affected by DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) or blood clots. The serious side effects of Nuvaring have become apparent as more women suffer from blood clots, strokes and pulmonary embolism while using Nuvaring birth control. Nuvaring blood clots are the most common occurrence among women and have forced women to do a rethink about their birth control choices as blood clots could lead to more serious dangers like an ischemic stroke, now also notorious as Nuva ring stroke among women. Deep vein thrombosis or DVT means blood clots that are embedded in one or more of the major deep veins of the lower part of the legs, thighs, and the pelvis. A blood clot can block circulation of blood to these veins, which transport blood from the lower part of the body back to the heart. Blockage of these veins could cause pain and swelling or warmth in the leg affected by blood clots.
Blood clots in the veins can cause inflammation or irritation in the legs, or what in medical terms is referred to as thrombophlebitis. Major complications due to DVT occur when a blood clot dislodges from its place in the vein, and travels to other organs and parts of the body through the bloodstream, thus blocking blood vessels in the lung. This is condition is known as pulmonary embolism or what is now referred to as Nuvaring PE. This condition leads to difficulty in breathing and could even result in death. The Nuvaring blood clots can not only cause pulmonary embolism but can also lead to what is called Nuva ring stroke. If the blood clot dislodges and travels to the brain through the arteries and veins and blocks an artery or vein supplying blood to the brain, it could lead to an ischemic stroke.
Nuvaring side effects such as Nuvaring blood clots are also forcing women using Nuvaring to rethink their birth control choices. Many women who had previously used Nuvaring and suffered Nuvaring related side effects or women, who have heard about these side effects, have switched to an IUD, which does not change the hormone levels like Nuvaring does. The reason why women are considering an intrauterine device is due to the risk of using a third generation combination contraceptive that contains desogestrel and the risk of a Nuva ring stroke. Desogestrel is a new form of the hormone progestin and multiple studies have reported the risks of having blood clots is double in comparison to using second-generation contraception methods that contain other hormones.
Nuvaring blood clots seem a small issue at first, but this small issue and side effect can quickly snowball into a major life threatening danger as the number of blood clots may increase with regular Nuvaring use, and all that is required is for one blood clot to move and travel to a vital organ to inflict a major damage like a Nuva ring stroke.
